Since our last update we have been working hard to achieve the goals set out at that time.
The bridge is now broadly complete with the remaining works comprising finishing off the landscaping, fencing and brickwork facing. We anticipate this being done over the next few weeks. As soon as it is and the trackside cleared, the bridge will be handed over to MHLR to prepare the line for running trains from Alton again.
Having begun excavating the eastern half of the roundabout, we have uncovered a number of uncharted services and discrepancies in the make-up of the road surfacing and sub-structure beneath it.
Resolving these issues to allow us to successfully tie in the new works to the levels of the existing highway and pavements has required design changes to the levels and depths of construction, associated surface water drainage and service diversions. Inevitably this has had a knock on effect to the construction programme.
Our current estimated completion of the roadworks is w/c 16 December.
We are doing all we can to accelerate the programme and will shortly be in a position to confirm a reopening date for Whitedown Lane, which will be done as soon as it is safe to do so.
We know residents affected by the diversion route and the community as a whole, will be disappointed by this news, as are we in having to deliver it. We are sorry for the continued inconvenience being caused as a result.
We would like to assure everyone that we are working on all fronts to make progress as swiftly as possible. We currently have four work areas underway simultaneously, namely on the bridge, under the bridge, on the roundabout and on the far side of our site set up. We have more than 30 operatives undertaking these works in addition to our site management team, who are supervising the construction and working to resolve the issues we are facing with our partners at Jubb, Aecom and Homes England.
We will provide a further scheduled update in one month at the end of November, or sooner if there is significant news to report.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
