The legal notices confirming the Butts Bridge/Whitedown Lane road closure will be posted in Alton next week.
We would like to reassure the public now that while the temporary traffic regulation order (TTRO) allows for extended measures that include, for example, temporary one-way traffic for the entire length of Ackender Road (northbound), this will not be the case when the traffic management arrangements are introduced in January.
Likewise, the order will be effective for 18 months from 4 January 2019, but the works are programmed to be complete in seven with a start date of 25 January.
The TTRO is a legal process used to introduce temporary restrictions that must be completed in advance and which therefore has to allow for all eventualities, as it cannot be amended retrospectively.
In effect, the notice allows for the worst-case scenario. This allows for contingency arrangements, which would only be brought into effect following consultation with Hampshire County Council and East Hampshire District Council, or under their instruction.
We would draw your attention to the following paragraph included in the notice by way of confirmation of our intentions:
The restrictions specified above apply only during such times and to such extent as indicated by traffic signs prescribed by the Traffic Signs Regulations & General Directions 2016.
We will introduce and conduct the works as we have set out and look forward to having them complete and removing the temporary restrictions just as soon as is possible.
