For the past two months our works have been continuing as described in our update of 30 July. This photo illustrates the good progress made so far. We are now at a point where we need to bring some new information to your attention.
Butts Bridge Roundabout Tree Removal
On Friday 12 October, we will be undertaking the removal of a single tree from the Butts Bridge roundabout to improve visibility prior to future changes in the road layout.
You will appreciate this is a safety requirement and has been instructed by Hampshire County Council Highways Department. The work will be undertaken using soft felling practices and is not expected to impact local traffic.
In the event of unexpected difficulties arising, we may instead undertake the work during one of the planned night time road closures described below.
Night Time Road Closures
During the works, several night time road closures are required to connect services and drainage across the carriageway and safely tie in the new road with Selborne Road.
Whilst we recognise this will be an inconvenience to some road users, this approach was considered preferable to introducing day time traffic signals over an extended period. We are sorry for all inconvenience caused as a result.
The closures are essential to enable the required works to be undertaken safely and have the least potential for disruption to normal traffic. The closures will take place between 8pm and 6am.
During these night time closures, the official diversion route, which has been approved by Hampshire County Council is via the A31, B3004 (Montecchio Way), Mill Lane, Ashdell Road, Lower Turks Street and The Butts Road.
At present, night time road closures are scheduled to occur on the following dates:
Monday 15 October for changes to the road markings, and
Tuesday 23, Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 October, to allow for drainage and service ducts crossing the carriageway.
Additional night time closures will be required during the week commencing 29 October, to complete road surfacing works to tie in the new road to Selborne Road and Winchester Road. Exact details will be confirmed nearer the time.

Changes to Existing Traffic Management Arrangements on Selborne Road
As we move into November, and following on after the road closures detailed above, please be aware there will be minor modifications to the traffic management arrangements along Selborne Road. This is to enable work to progress in different areas while still maintaining two-way traffic flows. We will provide more detail nearer the time.
Please note dates given in this update remain subject to change dependant on rate of progress achieved, availability of contractors, and other works on the wider highways network. In the event of a change becoming necessary, we will update this website at the first available opportunity. Please ensure you subscribe for website updates and follow @ButtsBridge on Twitter to keep up to date with the latest information.
